Carter off to World Championships
TTO’S TOP swimmer Dylan Carter will fly out today to Doha, Qatar, for the World Aquatics Championships from February 2 to 18.
He will be accompanied by his local coach Dexter Browne to the Championships which actually includes six aquatic disciplines: artistic swimming, diving, open water, water polo, high diving and swimming.
The swimming segment runs from February 11 to 18 and Carter is scheduled to participate in two events: the men’s 50 metres butterfly and the men’s 50m freestyle.
Ahead of the Summer Paris Games, Carter is sure to focus more on the 50m freestyle which is an Olympic event, as the 50m butterfly and 50m distances of breaststroke and backstroke are not.
Carter has qualified for the 50m and 100m freestyle for the Paris showpiece but said he was focusing more on the shorter sprint as he aspires to make the final eight and even medal in that event.
To achieve that goal, the experienced swimmer has undergone technical changes—following a stint at the Norwegian Swimming Federation last October. He has programmed more work on his starting technique, an element that presented him with a few challenges last year during the World Aquatics World Cup Series and previously at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships last July in Fukuoka, Japan.
