“I’m a world champion,’ Israeli windsurfer Sharon Kantor told Israel’s KAN 11 news in an interview on Sunday morning after winning a gold medal at the iQFoil World Championship, held in the Canary Islands.

“It’s very exciting these days to stand on the podium and hear [the Israeli national anthem] ‘HaTivka’ [The Hope]. It’s very powerful, I was proud. I can’t digest the crazy achievement, I’m a world champion,” Kantor said during the interview on the Reshet Bet radio program.

“At the beginning of the war, it was very difficult to concentrate on training, and not let what was happening interfere. If I represent the country – that’s my mission,” Kantor continued.

“By being on the podium, Katy and I, we showed how strong Israel is – that’s the most satisfying.”

Kantor thanked everyone close to her: “There is no family that’s as supportive [as mine], including friends at home, sponsors and the sailing association.”

The 21-year-old windsurfer won the gold medal last night at the World Championship held in the Canary Islands.

Athletes who took first place at the tournament secured a spot at the Paris Olympics to be held this summer.

Kati Spychakov, after winning the bronze medal, joined Kantor on the podium.
