The container had been sent from Dubai and landed at Nhava Sheva (

Singh had received intelligence from Punjab police that a suspicious container was lying unclaimed at Navkar Logistics at Ajivali, said DCP (crime) Suresh Mengade. “The team located the suspicious container, and when it was opened, it was found loaded with marble tiles. However, when we minutely inspected the container, we found some deformity in the metal frame of the container. We cut open the metal door and side frames and found 168 packets of powder suspected to be narcotics,” said Mengade.

A forensic team and the anti-narcotics cell used a test kit to confirm it is heroin. The 168 packets of heroin weight 72.5kg and is estimated to cost Rs 362.6 crore in the international market, said the police.

Last year in October, a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai zonal unit, team had conducted a raid at Nhava Sheva port and seized more than 25kg heroin worth Rs 125 crore from a container that arrived from Iran.

On Tuesday, the Gujarat ATS, also acting on Punjab police intelligence, had seized 75kg of heroin estimated to be worth Rs 376 crore from a container with fabric rolls that arrived from UAE at Mundra port in Kutch district.
